New Island

So after a month out here I will try to give a quick first impresion.

After a completly smooth journey I arrived in Stanley, to fly out to New Island the next day. Due to the weather on New Island the flight was eventually cancelled (after hanging around the FIGAS airstrip/port for an good while and I returned once more to Stanley. The next day all went smooth and so I arrived On the Island. Just in time, since a few minutes later the winddirection changed and we would have had to return!

I am housed in the same little A-frame as last year. It is quit cold, but otherwise very cosy. The rookery was already full with Albatross and some Shags and the first male Rockhoppers wher arriving. But it was oddly quiet! By now it has transformed and since the female rockhoppers arrived you have screaming rockhoppers, courting Shags, wailing Albatross and then of corse dolphin gulls too. Only the Skuas seem to be quiet.

I will try to upload some pictures of the settlement and my A-frame. And continue soon on the colony, the Tamar, the Barnard building, the Gentoos etc, etc
